An idea just came to my mind, but it depends if you are willing to go back there, because...I want you to go check out the place where you fainted.

There's no way to find any evidence from the bodies of the defectors, but we can check the surroundings to see if there are any traces that have been overlooked. The body you've found was the most recent defector. The body was burned because of the curse, and we lost any chance to check it for clues, but I reckon if humans are behind this, they simply must have left behind some trace.

As time passes, these traces will be more and more difficult to find, so go now and check the area thoroughly.

Suspicious footprints? It looks like someone got to the scene before you, and I dare say that person is certainly not going to help our investigation.
